Exhibition: The Astrolabe, East and West

Fourteenth-century quatrefoils?

This astrolabe is neither signed nor dated, but the four prominent quatrefoils in the rete are of some help in assigning a date. Sicily has been suggested as the place of origin, from some spellings in the calendar and zodiac scales, and was a centre for Hispano-Moorish learning in the fourteenth century.
