Astrolabe Catalogue

Date ca. 1400
Maker Jean Fusoris
Place Paris
Material Brass
Acquisition Presented by Lewis Evans in 1924
Accession 1924-0/2080

Provenance

Evans bought it from Brown, a London dealer. An inscription 'Jeh Charla' may be the name of an early owner, Jeh being an abbreviation of Jehan (the modern French name Jean). An alternative speculation is that the name represents Jean de Châlon (died 1414), the business partner of the presumed maker Jean Fusoris.
