Provenance
Evans acquired it with the Lagermann
collection, which he bought in Munich in 1910. Nothing more
is known of this collector. The plate from which this paper
astrolabe was printed was originally dated 1583 in Munden,
but the signature re-worked when it was issued with Krabbe's
book at Wolfenbüttel in 1609. It has been mounted and made up
into a working instrument in or after that date, either by
Krabbe or by an owner of the book. The arms are those of
Krabbe's patron Henricus Julius, Duke of Brunswick and
Lüneburg, to whom he was geometer.
