Provenance
This was one of the items retained by Mr
Billmeir when he gave the Billmeir Collection to the Museum
in 1957. He bought it during the period 1955-57. It was
previously the property of the d'Hauteville family, of
Salon-de-Provence (the same provenance as inventory no.
49847). It was made for the latitude of Bologna. Its original
owner was Giulio Cesare Luchino, of Bologna, who (an
inscription records) supervised its construction.
